Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Human Resources contributes to the successful achievement of the organization’s mission and strategic initiatives by providing leadership, oversight, evaluation, and operationalization of the human resources performance for a growing and diverse organization. Initiatives, such as workforce planning, recruitment, compensation, benefits, leadership development, employee relations, talent management, and provider credentialing are critical success areas for this role.

This role is accountable for driving change and improvement for the HR department, by providing leadership and innovation.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead, plan, develop and organize the human resources and credentialing team activities for the organization
  • Oversee compensation strategy, design, operations and programs to ensure the organization’s needs are met, salaries are competitive and regulatory compliance is achieved
  • Direct the strategy and administration of benefit programs including: health, retirement, disability and unemployment. Evaluate and recommend or make improvements to benefit programs
  • Provide human resource and other technical expertise and counsel to directors, managers and senior leadership
  • Oversee talent strategy: talent acquisition, leaning and development, workforce planning, career paths, performance management and succession planning
  • Understand retention and employee engagement and develop programs, processes and models to increase both retention and staff engagement.
  • Partner with the Development grants team to ensure robust loan repayment programs and their use to recruit and retain staff.
  • Apply current technology relevant to human recourse function, optimize use of current software tools and platforms.
  • Collaborate and ensure effective working relationships with the senior leadership team, directors, managers, and other staff.
  • Prepare all annual human resource and credentialing budgets. Monitor budget variances and take corrective action, as needed, to ensure budget goals and contract requirements are met
  • Develop and maintain a high functioning human resources team. This includes hiring, training, and regularly evaluating staff performance. Routinely review position descriptions; work with staff to establish annual performance goals and work plans to attain goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all external state and federal reporting and regulatory requirements
  • Responsible for the creation, administration and monitoring of human resource and credentialing policies, procedures and standards; and the timely preparation and presentation of human resource and credentialing reports
  • Lead staff engagement survey process and action plans to improve
  • Regularly evaluate retention and turnover data, develop programs and evolve practices and tools to improve retention.
  • Evaluate organizational culture and provide recommendations to accomplish organization goals and objectives consistent with our Lean principles and methods.
  • Oversee staff relations team and ensure consistent, legal and equitable treatment of employees’ issues/concerns
  • Oversee the development and facilitation of management trainings as it relates to staff and leadership development
  • Maintain and coordinate staff recognition programs
  • Oversee volunteer program including recruitment, retention and acknowledgement
  • Respond to all Employment Security, EEOC and/or Human Rights inquiries

Required Search Criteria:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Human Resource or Business Administration preferred
  • 10+ years demonstrated experience delivering innovative leadership in human resources
  • Minimum 7 years progressive management experience, preferably with exposure and experience in the healthcare arena
  • Proven capacity and experience developing systems and processes in traditional HR functions- recruitment, leadership development, compensation and benefits, training, performance management
  • Knowledge and familiarity utilizing HRIS systems and other technology platforms used at NCH
  • Successful track record and /or prior experience in building (start-up) or improving (existing) HR departments
  • An excellent communicator, collaborator, and team facilitator

Preferred:

  • SPHR and/or PHR Certification
  • Prior experience with LEAN methodologies

Initial Expectations:

  • Develop strong rapport with NCH HR Team and Senior Leadership team, working toward the achievement of a strong organizational culture
  • Leverage existing NCH values and work to identify needs and initiatives to enhance the HR team’s effectiveness concurrent with building trust amongst team members- interdepartmental as well as across the organization
  • Regularly meet with and engage other Senior Leadership Team colleagues in establishing functional partnerships which will be additive to the efficacy of NCH human resources team.
  • Focus on execution of the outlined deliverables and roadmap initiatives resulting from HR Assessment completed Fall 2017
  • Evaluate the existing HR department organizational structure and identify opportunities to enhance and/or make appropriate changes.
